If you really want to stop smoking, all you need to do is find a substitute to it. I know of folks who picked up caffeine instead, or nicotine gum. These measures have been known to help rather well for a lot of Americans because they now have something else to occupy their minds and time with. It can help you too. There is no easy way to stop smoking, especially once you are addicted to the nicotine content of the substance. What you can do is prepare for the long haul because that is what it is going to be. Quitting smoking takes a lot out of you, and you might as well prepare to give.
Too many Americans seem to have trouble quitting the cigarette, which I find hard to understand. Much in the same way as you make yourself quit biting on your nails because you have become of age, you can simply tell yourself that you cannot smoke anymore because it’s killing you. Yes, you read that right – it’s no longer news that smoking is a silent killer. The substance holds on to you, and does not let go very easily. I don’t think a doctor is the best person to help you with stopping smoking, seeing as so many of them know the hazards but they smoke also. I think the best way to quit is to find a person who has succeeded at it before. Their own stories might inspire your. Sip water very slowly every time you have a craving for the cigarette. Actually it is the nicotine in the substance that is calling for you, and your natural instinct will be to heed that call. If you however dowse that fire by drinking very cold water, you could find that the fire dies down a bit. Keep that up for a bit, and the cravings will finally take a hike.
If your life is on the line, you would have no trouble stopping the nicotine. If you think you cannot ever quit, just wait until you get that doctor’s report telling you your next drag might be your last. I have seen more than a few people stop smoking at that life turning moment – when the doctor painted them the gloomy picture. Smoking kills, which I’m sure that you know. I know also that you don’t think you can quit because the darned thing is so addictive. Sure, but you can look for a professional to help you through the process. If you find someone who knows how to bring it about, good for you. But don’t forget that the longer it takes you to stop smoking, the closer you are moving to your grave.
